Providing Culturally Safe Care for Indigenous Children

Register by November 30 for FREE access to this module. Here

This 1.5-hour module is intended to help healthcare practitioners understand the importance of cultural safety in healthcare practices and the ways they can help to make Indigenous patients and their families feel safe and dignified when accessing healthcare services. The content was developed by the Canadian Paediatric Society and the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health.

The module examines key aspects of culturally safe care for Indigenous children, youth, and families, and explores how culturally safe care is practiced. It covers historical factors, social determinants of Indigenous health, and power imbalances that affect patient-practitioner interactions with Indigenous people within healthcare settings and explores factors such as racism that act as barriers to accessing health care for Indigenous patients.

Upon completion, learners will have a better understanding of why culturally safe care is necessary and important for improving the health status of Indigenous people and communities.
